#LLBF - Keeping Bryson's Legacy Alive

Bryson brought so much joy, laughter, and light into the lives of all who knew

him, and while his time with us was far too short, the love he gave and the

memories he created will forever live on in our hearts.  We are humbled by the

outpouring support from the local community and the acknowledgement from

cheer programs across the tri-state area on how big of an impact he's made in

his short time with all of us.

Bryson had been tumbling ever since his mom can remember - teaching himself

how to do cartwheels, splits and flips on the trampoline.  In the summer of 2022,

Bryson went to Summer camp at The Spot, where his love for tumbling continued

to grow.  The camp staff invited him to attend an Open Gym at 717 Athletics, and

despite a bit of hesitation from mom, Bryson was adamant on going.  So he did.

When they walked into Open Gym,  his mom was surprised to hear all of the girls yell “Bryson is here!” - they were overjoyed at the thought of him joining their team.  Bryson knew he wanted to give competition cheer a try, so his mom signed him up for Season One with 717 Athletics and fell in love with it!  He was 1 of 22 on the roster for the Mini 8U team in Season One and 1 of 13 on the roster for the Mini 8U team in Season Two and 1 of 16 on the PeeWee 10U team in Season Three.

What was it about cheer that he loved so much?

Bryson was diagnosed with ADHD and ODD, so cheer became his outlet to release all of

his energy and to just be himself.  He wasn't treated differently, but was encouraged to

work hard and be the best version of himself by his teammates and coaches.

When Bryson accomplished a goal (like his back tuck!), everyone celebrated with him

and uplifted him.  Bryson loved and cherished the friendships that he made within

717 Athletics and knew how much people looked up to him.  He used that power and

influence to encourage others to work hard, be kind and always be true to who you are.

Bryson was never afraid to do what he loved and we are honored to

keep his legacy alive in the upcoming seasons.

In honor of Bryson, 717 Athletics has started the Bryson Funk Sponsorship Fund

This fund will assist athletes experiencing financial hardships so they can

continue to perform the sport they love by lessening their financial burden. 🖤🩶🤍
